Mountain biking around Kathmandu
This short ride around the Kathmandu Valley takes you out and away from the hustle and bustle of the city to some of the best known hill stations on the valley rim. From both Nagarkot and Chisapani the views of the Himalaya are simply breath-taking. The tour passes close to the beautiful monastery at Namobuddha and the ancient centres of Paunti and Dhulikhel. It is a great way to experience the rich rural culture and tradition of the Valley.
The ride is a moderate one, but there are a lot of ups and downs so you do need to have a good level of fitness. The trails are mixed jeep track, single track, country roads and short sections on main road.
Day 01: Kathmandu to Lakuri Bhanjyang via Chobar – Mixed 34 km
Day 02: Lakuri Bhanjyang to Dhulikhel via Namobuddha – Mixed 39 km
Day 03: Dhulikhel to Nagarkot via Nala – Moslty Uphill 22 km
Day 04: Nagarkot to Chisapani – Flat and Uphill 42 km
Day 05: Chisapani to Kathmandu via Sundari Jal – Downhill 23 km
This trip starts with the long climb to Kakani, and the ride is one for the intermediate to advanced rider. From Kakani the ride traverses the technical Scar Road, one of the best mountain biking routes in the valley. The trail passes from one scenic view spot to the next and there are endless views of the Himalaya. The trail is mixed single track, jeep track and country roads with lots of up and down hill riding to challenge the rider’s fitness and technical skills. This ride is also an ideal way to pick up on the welcoming culture of rural Nepal and it showcases some of the cultural and religious highlights of the Kathmandu Valley.
Day 01: Kathmandu to Kakani – Paved road, uphill, 34km
Day 02: Kakani to Mulkharka via the Scar Road -Single track, 27km
Day 03: Mulkharka to Chisapani – Jeep track, uphill- 18km
Day 04: Chisapani to Nagarkot, Mixed 32km
Day 05: Nagarkot to Dhulikhel – Jeep track, downhil, 22km
Day 06: Dhulikhel to Bhaltali via Namobuddha – Mixed, 28km
Day 07: Baltali to Godarwi via Lakuri Bhanjyang – Mixed, 38km
Day 08: Godarwi to Kathmandu via Dhuskinkali & Chobar – Mixed, 29km
